I recommend the Aquaphor healing method.
Day 1:
Wash hands well.
Remove bandage after 3 hours minimum. You can leave it on up to 12. Remove and discard.
Wash tattoo immediately after removing bandage. Wash thoroughly but gently with warm water and fragrance free soap. Something gentle. ( aveeno, soft soap, dr.bronners baby.)
Pat dry with a clean towel. Allow to air dry
Repeat the washing step once or twice throughout your day.
Wash for the last time before bed. Apply no ointment or covering. ( clean sheets are a plus , especially with pets)
Do not use spf or antibacterial ointment !!!!
Day 2-7
Wash your tattoo when you wake up.
Wash once or twice through the day.
Whenever it feels dry or tight you can use a VERY small amount of Aquaphor ointment. Massage a VERY small amount into and spread around the entire tattooed area creating a VERY thin layer. You should not see ointment on top of the skin. Just a shine over the whole area.
As it begins to heal it will dry out and flake off like a sunburn heals. Use the aquaphor as moisturizer until all of the scabs have fallen off and the tattoo is no longer sensitive.
If you have hard scabs or irritation, inflammation or any concerns. Contact your artist immediately.
Do not use antibiotic ointment or medications while healing your tattoo
Avoid direct and prolonged exposure to the sun, animal dander, tight fabric clothing.
Day 7-12
Your tattoo scabs have flaked off and there is a pale ring of dry skin around your tattoo. Your tattoo is shiny and dry feeling.
Moisturize as often as it feels dry. Use non scented lotion or safe oils: use as often as it feels necessary for as long as you’d like.
Suggested lotions: aveeno unscented, palmers cocoa butter, coconut oil,
Use spf 35 or greater when in the sun. The healthier your skin is, the longer your tattoo will stay strong and beautiful.
